I come from a long family lineage of nerds. My father is a lifelong trekkie and raised five kids of different levels of nerd. When I was much younger I used to work at anime conventions (A-Kon in Dallas). Being drawn to the artwork of both anime and comic books most of my early work is filled with shiny eyes and big feet. While I still have a love and appreciation for comic and anime art, my style shifted to photo-realism.
Credentials (kind of)
Fifteen years of general art with a focus in portraiture for the last ten.
Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Texas in Art History.
A bit of a hermit so I stay in and draw a lot (biggest contributor to my work)
My Artistic Vision
Being a fan of art history, I take a classical approach to the artist patron relationship. I tend to view it as the masters did, a trade-skill that should be honed over time through hard work and sacrifice.
I believe anyone can be a great artist. Being great is simply a matter of time and effort. With each picture I draw I learn a little more, and hopefully each one will make the next one better. For anyone wanting to learn to draw my best advice is simply to start drawing. "Natural talent," if it even exists, counts for very little in my experience.
Who I have had the pleasure of working with
I am very fortunate to have worked with and have learned from some fantastic artists, both in the comic world and in the more traditional art world.
